Community Housing

Community Housing is provided to assist families who, because of their income, cannot obtain adequate accommodation at the current market rate. Community Housing consists of duplexes, townhouses or apartments. Priority is given to families with dependent children living in poor or overcrowded housing conditions or paying a high percentage of their income for rent. We allocate housing based on need according to government regulations.

The rent for Community Housing is calculated from the gross income (total family earnings) and is equal to 30% of that amount. The rent includes heat and water. The tenant is responsible for electricity and any hook-up costs.

Eligibility

Eligibility for Community Housing is based on a provincial point-scoring criteria to ensure housing opportunities are provided to those most in need. Need is determined by income, assets, and current housing condition (Core Need Income Threshold). Eligible applicants will be placed on the Community Social Housing waiting list.
