Welcome
Established in 1971, the Red Deer Housing Authority (RDHA) manages social housing owned by the government. RDHA administers 309 community housing units located in Red Deer, Sylvan Lake and Innisfail, as well as rent supplement programs.
Designated a Management Body by Ministerial Order in 1995, RDHA is bound by regulations of the Alberta Housing Act. The Ministerial Order empowers the Management Body to manage the social housing owned by the government and to carry out other activities related to the provision of housing and associated support services.
Community Housing
Community Housing is provided to assist families who, because of their income, cannot obtain adequate accommodation at the current market rate. Community Housing consists of duplexes, townhouses or apartments. Priority is given to families with dependent children living in poor or overcrowded housing conditions or paying a high percentage of their income for rent. We allocate housing based on need according to government regulations.
The rent for Community Housing is calculated from the gross income (total family earnings) and is equal to 30% of that amount. The rent includes heat and water. The tenant is responsible for electricity and any hook-up costs.

Rent Supplements
The Rent Supplement Programs have been established by Federal and Provincial Governments to help address the housing need throughout Alberta. There are two available programs, the Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB), and the Temporary Rental Assistance Benefit (TRAB).
Red Deer Housing Authority (RDHA) is only able to administer these programs for their specific areas. RAB is available in Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail and Rocky Mountain House. TRAB is available for only Red Deer residents.
Subsidy payments to tenants are issued directly by RDHA.
